BitTorrent transports you into a world of discovery. Try it today.
BitTorrent is the global standard for accessing rich media over the Internet.
BitTorrent is the global standard for delivering high-quality files over the Internet. With an installed base of over 160 million clients worldwide, BitTorrent technology has turned conventional distribution economics on its head. The more popular a large video, audio or software file, the faster and cheaper it can be transferred with BitTorrent. The result is a better digital entertainment experience for everyone.
BitTorrent is a protocol (a set of rules and description of how to do things) allowing you to download files quickly by allowing people downloading the file to upload (distribute) parts of it at the same time. BitTorrent is often used for distribution of very large files, very popular files and files available for free, as it is a lot cheaper, faster and more efficient to distribute files using BitTorrent than a regular download.
BitTorrent 7 is a client. A 'client' in this case is a computer program that follows the rules of a protocol. For example, HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) is the protocol used to download web pages and other content - like this page - and your HTTP client (or browser) is the program you use to get those web pages. Some popular browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Opera. To an extent, they all work the same way because they follow the same set of rules. The BitTorrent 6 client will give you access to the world of content on the protocol in a lightweight, fast and reliable package.
The original BitTorrent software is iconic and packed with features. Plus, there are new things on the horizon.
Discovery
BitTorrent makes it easy to connect with cutting-edge indie artists. Check out the App Studio first and download movies, music and more.
Speedy
Fast downloads...that's the goal, right? BitTorrent is a light client that doesn't hog system resources, so it cruises right along.
Simple
In a word, it's intuitive. And just wait, our new client (coming soon), is even easier. It's discover, download and play cool stuff.
Advanced
BitTorrent leverages µTP, the latest BitTorrent protocol. BitTorrent maximizes the use of network bandwidth while reducing congestion & it doesn't interfere with your other surfing. Make VoIP calls, use Skype, play games, stream video etc.
Reliable
And, since BitTorrent's developers manage the open source protocol, you always have access to the latest and greatest technologies.
Plug-n-Play
BitTorrent is a snap to install and set-up on your home network. We use the industry standard UPnP and NAT-PMP networking technologies to prepare your router for torrent access.
Customized
It is super-easy to make BitTorrent all about you. Add new features through the App Studio, skin your client and more.
Intelligent
BitTorrent is instinctively smart. It auto-adjusts bandwidth usage based upon your network and the Internet. Use Skype, play games, stream video etc., all without interference.
